Public Service Agency Grants

Public Service activities are funded through grants that are given to other agencies or Town departments to carry out eligible community development activities. Funding is open to any nonprofit agency that provides a public service directed toward improving the community. Eligible public service activities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Employment
  • Child Abuse
  • Drug Abuse
  • Energy Conservation
  • Recreational Needs
  • Crime Prevention
  • Health
  • Education
  • Welfare

Notices are published in local newspapers early in the calendar year, and applications are accepted for funding on an annual basis. The Community Development Block Grant Program Year conforms to the Town’s Fiscal Year (July 1 to June 30), although HUD funding usually becomes available in the Fall. The Community Development Advisory Commission reviews applications, interviews the applicants, and recommends agency funding to the Mayor and Legislative Council. The public is invited to comment on the merits of these applicants as well. If you are a non-profit organization interested in seeking public service agency funding please contact Adam Sendroff, Community Development Manager at 203-776-5978 x1123 or email at asendroff@hamden.com.
