HAMDEN – Mayor Curt Balzano Leng is very pleased to announce that Hamden has expanded local tax relief options for certain elderly and permanently disabled homeowners, which annually benefits over 700 households throughout Town. This amendment to the senior tax relief ordinance expands one of the best local senior tax relief programs in the State of Connecticut. The Hamden Legislative Council approved this expanded relief program unanimously on Monday, May 18th, 2020.
The amendment increases the base local Town tax relief by an additional $200 in tax credit for all married and single eligible applicants with income ranging from $0-$36,000 and by $100 for all married and single applicants eligible with income ranging from $36,001-$43,900. Income eligibility thresholds are established by the State of Connecticut.
Mayor Curt Balzano Leng commented, “Over 700 seniors benefit from this program, some of whom are struggling financially. Hamden has worked to protect our income eligible seniors for many years, and is determined to continue expanding these protections into the future. Our seniors are the backbone of our communities, and deserve any tax assistance that Hamden can reasonably provide.”
