Q. What is the distance of the Farmington Canal Greenway?
A. The Hamden portion of the Canal line is 7.2 miles from Mt. Sanford St in the north to the current end at Connolly Parkway. The Town of Cheshire has 2.8 miles of canal line, which is contiguous to the Hamden portion. See Farmington Canal Greenway for additional information.

Q. What do the numbers painted on the greenway represent?
A. The numbers are distance markers from the beginning of the greenway (Mt. Sanford St.) to its present ending point. They are marked in tenths of a mile to alert users to the distance they are traveling. They also serve as informational points should anyone have to report an incident along the way. The numbers are painted in different colors as an additional safety measure to assist in pinpointing exact locations.

Q. How does one use the town swimming pool?
A. The Hamden High School pool can be accessed by purchasing a yearly pool permit or by paying a daily fee at poolside. See pool pass for rate schedule.

Q. What are the pool hours?
A. Hours vary and seasonally and may be obtained daily by calling the Information Line at 287-2588.

Q. What camps are available to children?
A. The town operates several day camp experiences during the summer from ages 3 1/2 to 17. See information under Day Camps.

Q. Are there playground areas in Hamden?
A. Yes, there are three major playground/playscape areas in Hamden. They are located at Millrock Park, Denicola Park and Larry’s Playground at Bassett Park at Millrock Road, Treadwell St. and Ridge Road respectively.

Q. Is camping allowed at Brooksvale Park?
A. Yes but restricted to scouting and serviced oriented organizations. Permit required.

Q. When is the Brooksvale Fall Festival?
A. It is always the third Saturday in October. It is planned to coincide with area’s “peak” colors.

Q. Are dogs allowed at Brooksvale Park?
A. Yes, but must be on a leash at all times.

Q. Is the Brooksvale Pavilion available for rent and how do I do it?
A. Yes, it can be reserved by contacting the Ranger Station at 287-2669.

Q. What are the Public Skating hours at the rink?
A. It varies according to the season. During the winter months public skating sessions are held on Friday evenings and Sunday afternoons. Call the Rink info line at 287-2610 for specific hours.

Q. Are skate rentals available?
A. Yes, for both children and adults.

Q. The weather has taken a turn for the worse. How do I find out if games for this evening are still being played?
A. Call the Parks and Recreation info line at 287-2588.

Q. I would like to get a permit for Sleeping Giant. Can you help me?
A. Sleeping Giant is a State Park and is not affiliated with the town. The Department of Environmental Protection oversees all operations there. You may contact the Park Ranger at (203) 784-7498 .

Q. Who do I call to have my leaves picked up?
A. The Dept. of Public Works is responsible for the removal of leaves. Their number is 287-2600.

Q. There is a tree that is damaged and is in danger of falling down on the street. Who do I call?
