LA Fitness Opens on Long Vacant Skiff Street Site
The residents of Hamden have a new place to get slim, fit and stay healthy. A new LA Fitness held a grand opening on August 26th, 2006 on 46 Skiff Street at the site of the former (7th Ave) Juvenile Warehouse. Mayor Craig Henrici, Economic Development Director Dale Kroop and Nancy Dudchik CEO of the Hamden Chamber were on hand with other Town officials for the grand opening. “ We are thrilled to have LA Fitness open in Hamden. They are the premier sports/health club in the country and will be a great addition to the Town of Hamden,” stated Mayor Henrici.

This new 43,000 square foot facility provides a state of the art physical training facility. It will provide a pool, basketball courts, racquetball courts, a juice bar, locker rooms, weights/cardiovascular training, and daycare for member’s children.
LA Fitness is the premier sport/health club operator in the country. There are also branches in West Haven and Stamford Connecticut. Sullivan – Hays along with Benderson Development Company was the developer for this project. The Proto Group from North Haven was instrumental it putting together the project on this long vacant site.
