What is Brooksvale Park?
Brooksvale Park is a continuation of what this land used to be. Back in the 1800's this property was a working farm owned by the Brooks family (look on our "history" page for more information). He then leased his land in perpetuity to the Town of Hamden to be used as the town "Poor Farm".
The Park is now 500 acres, and staff and volunteers take pride in contributing to its growth. The Park staff is passionate about keeping a farm feel, focused on agriculture, education, and animal husbandry. The Barnyard is focused on exhibiting our animal's habitats and their needs, rather than them being on display, such as at a petting zoo. The Park also serves as a great educational tool, and the staff is willing to talk with all visitors that have questions. The Park provides a relaxing atmosphere where visitors can come walk the trails, look through the garden, and be around animals--and we hope to keep the tradition going for many more years!
