Food Scrap Collection at the Hamden Transfer Station

Food Scrap Collection

Hamden Public Works in collaboration with All American Waste and Quantum Biopower, now have residential food waste dropped off at the transfer station transported to the Quantum Anaerobic Digester in Southington, Ct. Collecting food waste from households lowers Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) cost for the town. Not only that, the Quantum Biopower facility uses the food waste to generate electricity and make compost for enhancing soil. It does not generate polluting gases as the food waste would if sent to a landfill.

Free Pails with Lids

Residents can bring their food waste in a reusable container (that you must keep and reuse!). The town will provide you with a free plastic container and lid, just call Joe DeRisi, Hamden Recycling Coordinator at 203-287-7021 to get one. Food scraps can be brought to the Transfer Station during regular hours of operation; Monday through Friday 7:30 – 11:30 and 12:30- 3:00 pm, and the first Saturday of each month from 8:00 to 11:45. For more information on organics recycling  or recycling in general you can call the Joe DeRisi, the town Recycling Coordinator at 203-287-7021, or e-mail at jderisi@hamden.com  or e-mail at jderisi@hamden.com  Or go to this town webpage https://www.hamden.com/214/Solid-Waste-Recycling
