Leng Declares Public Emergency
in Response to Tropical Storm Henri

DECLARATION OF A PUBLIC EMERGENCY
TOWN OF HAMDEN
WHEREAS, on August 20, 2021, the Governor of the State of Connecticut, the Honorable Ned Lamont, declared a civil preparedness emergency for the State of Connecticut, pursuant to Connecticut General Statutes Section 28-9, in advance of anticipated severe weather conditions, specifically the effects of Tropical Storm Henri; and
WHEREAS, President Joseph R. Biden, Jr. declared an emergency exists in the State of Connecticut and ordered Federal assistance to supplement State, tribal, and local response efforts due to the emergency conditions resulting from Tropical Storm Henri beginning on August 21, 2021, and continuing; and
WHEREAS, Section 5-5 A. of the Charter of the Town of Hamden states: A public emergency pertaining to the Town may be declared by the Mayor; and,
WHEREAS, Section 34.07(B) of the Code of Ordinances states: the Mayor may declare a state of civil preparedness if an emergency exists.
NOW, THEREFORE I HEREBY DECLARE a public emergency and state of civil preparedness pursuant to Connecticut General Statutes, Section 5-5 A. of the Charter and Section 34.07 (B) of the Code of Ordinances, a public emergency and state of civil preparedness exist for the Town of Hamden due to the effects of a Tropical Storm Henri effective on August 22, 2021.
I FURTHER DECLARE, that the public emergency and state of civil preparedness shall exist until declared to be terminated.
I FURTHER DECLARE that Mayor, Curt Balzano Leng shall assume the powers, functions and duties prescribed by law, including but not limited to Connecticut General Statutes Sections 28-8a(a), Section 5-5 of the Hamden Charter and Section 34.07 of the Code of Ordinances.
