[ARCHIVED] Hamden Veterans Commission Names 2022 Memorial Day Parade Grand Marshals

Hamden Veterans Commission Names 2022 Memorial Day Parade Grand Marshals

Hamden – The Town of Hamden will present its 84th Annual Memorial Day Parade on Monday, May 30th, 2022 beginning at 10:00am at Hamden High School and continuing north along Dixwell Avenue to the Hamden Middle School (please note the route change). The Parade will be reviewed on Dixwell Avenue across from Citizens Bank.   Following the parade there will be a wreath ceremony at the Veterans Memorial in front of Hamden Middle School. After the invocation, Mayor Lauren Garrett and the Parade Marshals will address those in attendance, and wreaths will be placed at the Memorial.

This year, the Hamden Veterans Commission has selected a veteran and a citizen who have exhibited their ongoing dedication and support of veterans in our community.

Hamden’s Memorial Day Parade Military Grand Marshal is Army Reserve Ambassador (AMB) Emeritus Colonel Ron Weil. He spent 34 years in the Army and the Army Reserve. His education and military experience is vast. Currently, he is Chairman of Hamden’s Veterans Commission. He serves on Congressman Rosa DeLauro’s Veterans Military Affairs Council and for years, he has been very active in the State’s military community in various organizations. Ron Weil has been a valuable asset to our Commission and to the Town of Hamden.

Phil Goodwin was selected as this year’s Civilian Grand Marshal. As a resident, Phil attended many Veterans Commission meetings, always offering to help wherever he was needed.  Some of his volunteer efforts include helping with flag planting, acquiring our veterans display case and helping to organize the 100s of parade marchers on Memorial Day morning.  As Purchasing Agent for the Town, Phil has been able to guide us through the many projects we as a Commission have been involved in.

After the Memorial Day parade there will be a ceremony at Hamden Middle School commemorating the true meaning of the day, remembering those who have died in service to their country. At this time, Grand Parade Marshals Ron Weil and Phil Goodwin will be honored. The ceremony will feature remarks from the Veterans Commission, Mayor Garrett, and other guests, and will begin at 11:30am at Veterans Memorial Monument, located at 2623 Dixwell Ave, Hamden, CT 06518. Please join us as we remember and honor all those who sacrificed so we could exercise and enjoy the many freedoms we have.

The Town of Hamden would be honored if current members of our Armed Forces would join us. We are also always in need of convertibles to drive some of our Veterans.  Many local organizations have registered to march in the parade.
