Hamden Free Summer Concert Series Set
Fridays in July: 7th, 14th, 21st, and 28th at Town Center Park
Hamden – The Hamden Arts Commission and Hamden’s Department of Arts, Culture, Recreation and Wellness are excited to announce the 2023 Hamden Free Summer Concert Series lineup that is sure to captivate the audience and create unforgettable nights of music.
The music and fun kicks off at Town Center Park on Friday July 7th with Nekita Waller bringing her incredible voice and powerful stage presence to the park with a mix of pop, Motown, soul, Jazz, classic rock favorites and original music! Nekita is Connecticut’s first African American solo and non-folk artist to be appointed as State Troubadour. The opening act is contemporary Country Cover Southern Voice Band playing all the chart hits today, as well as pop, rock, southern rock, and dance genres.
On Friday July 14th, enjoy the smooth sounds of The Timmy Maia Band, a native of Waterbury, CT bringing hits from today’s Top 40, jazz, classic rock and pop to Town Center Park with his extensive musical repertoire. He will take you on a soulful journey with his incredible sound and energy. The opening act is R&B, Funk, Soul & Eclectic dance and show band, The Bernadettes with an emphasis on classic "old school" R&B, representing beloved, timeless classics with a memorable performance.
DJ Buddha LuvJonz and Herman Ham Group come together on Friday July 21st to bring the party with their unique blend of hip-hop, R&B, and electronic music for a serious Party in the Park. DJ Buddha LuvJonz is a Bridgeport, CT native and a poet, DJ, actor, and designer. He was recognized as one of the top 10 DJ's for Jay-Z's 2009 NYC 40/40 club DJ Competition, and finds ways to diversify and unify people through his creative approach. Herman Ham Group was founded by Herman Ham who is well known with over 20 years of experience. Herman Ham Group covers Jazz, Rock, R&B, Reggae, Top 40, Swing, Soul, Latin and Pop and more.
The final act stars contemporary jazz group Doug Jones Jazz on Friday July 28th to close out the series with their unique style and smooth jazz sound. Doug Jones is a Connecticut native and expresses his passion for music through his compositions and performances. He has performed at the Hartford Jazz Festival in addition to Newport, Manhattan, Boston and South America. Doug’s music is a melodic mix of Contemporary / Smooth Jazz in the style of Dave Koz, Michael Lington and David Sanborn. The opening act is Connecticut native Fred Brown’s original act, Professor B and the Army of Love, creating a mellow atmosphere with truly inspirational pop and reggae-tinged music.
All shows begin at 7:30PM with the opening act, followed by the main act at 8PM, and will take place at Hamden’s Town Center Park, 2761 Dixwell Ave with ample free parking. To park, please enter Town Center Park through the Hamden Middle School, 2623 Dixwell Ave. Parking can also be found at the Miller Cultural Complex, 2901 Dixwell Ave.
In the event of inclement weather, information regarding the concert will be available online by 12PM noon the day of the concert.
The Hamden Free Summer Concert Series is presented by the Hamden Arts Commission and Hamden’s Department of Arts, Culture, Recreation and Wellness. The Hamden Free Summer Concert Series is held in cooperation with the Hamden Parks Department, Hamden Public Works, Hamden Police Department, CERT, and the Mayor’s Office.
