1. What are the hours of operation for the Tax Office?

Monday through Friday

3. When are payments due?

If a bill is less than $250, payment in full is due July 1st, otherwise the first payment is due July 1st and the second payment is due January 1st. Two installment bills may be paid in full in July.

4. Is tax bill information available online?

Taxpayers may now view bills on Hamden's My Tax Bill website.

5. Is there a fee for copies of bills and payment history?

Yes. As of November 1, 2014, there will be a fee of $0.50 per page for these items.

6. Are credit card payments or electronic payments accepted?

Credit card payments can be made through Hamden's My Tax Bill website.  A fee is charged to the taxpayer for this service.

7. How do I make out my check for tax payments?

Make checks out to "Collector of Taxes - Hamden"

8. Is there a fee for a dishonored (bounced) check?

Yes, there is a fee of $20 for each check that is dishonored (bounced) by your bank.

10. What form of payment is acceptable when a motor vehicle release is needed?

Cash, certified check or money order are accepted by the Tax Office.

11. What does the notation on your bill “Back Taxes Due” mean?

This indicates you have prior taxes owing. Please call 203-287-7140 for updated interest charges before paying.

12. Who do I contact with questions regarding assessments, exemptions or adjustments to a bill?

Call the Assessor at 203-287-7128.

13. What is the current Mill Rate?

The current Mill Rate for the 2022 to 2023 fiscal year is 56.38. The mill rate for motor vehicles is 32.46.

14. Who should I address sewer use inquiries to?

All sewer use inquiries should be directed to the Greater New Haven Water Pollution Control Authority. Payments can be accepted at:
